Even though we are not bringing you a new episode this week, our past guests have been doing some big things in the world and we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate them and encourage you to revisit some of those conversations. So let’s get to it!

  • Check out the web page for Episode 30’s guest Ina Finchman and her latest film The Gig Is Up. Look at the “Take Action Page” to find out ways you support those who work in the gig economy.

  • Episode 29’s Ann Kaneko & Jin Yoo-Kim are going strong with their project Manzanar Diverted. They had an incredible LA premiere at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival last month. And they are doing a series of special screenings with AARP between now and November.

  • Episode 27’s Ashley O’Shay’s film Unapologetic is screening as part of the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema for those who want to see it in Canada and it will have its Taiwan premiere at the Women Make Waves International Film Festival! And remember, Ashley did some of the camera work on Surviving R. Kelly, and we all know where he’s going to spend the rest of his life. So Boo-yah.

  • Episode 23’s Robert Chang is the Coordinating Producer at American Documentary which has programmed the films of three of our past guests for POV’s Season 34. Episode 2’s Emily Cohen Ibañez and Ashley SolisFruits of Labor had its premiere this Monday! Yay!  Chester Argenal and Elegance Bratton who were on  Episode 16, had their premiere of Pier Kids air earlier this year. Ashley O’Shay’s Unapologetic will premiere on December 27.

  • Congratulations to Episode 21 guest, April Dobbins! She is the new director of programming at the Coral Gables Art Cinema which is one of Miami’s most popular art-house theaters. She will be the first Sistah to hold that position in any movie theater in South Florida!

Not only is she heading Firelight’s Hindsight series which we discussed in her interview but she is overseeing Homegrown: Future Visions which will be a new collection of digital non-fiction short films by emerging BIPOC filmmakers living in the American Midwest. Submissions are open now!
